Jessica Bergevin Physiotherapy (JBPhysio) Clinic Update!
December 1, 2022
**New direct email for patients: contact@jbphysio.ca
Hello to all patients, families, the local community, and referral sources for JBPhysio. It is with much appreciation and excitement that I share the upcoming JBPhysio clinic updates with you.
A warm welcome to our new Clinic Manager Amy Mackay!
Amy instils a passion for helping people live their best lives and has done so through varying career roles. Amy is currently the Executive Director of the Free Spirit Therapeutic Riding Association (FSTRA) and is very excited to be joining the JBPhysio team. In her spare time Amy enjoys being in nature, riding horses, and spending time with her family. Amy, her husband, and her two boys just moved to the Valley, fulfilling a long-time dream of raising their family here. Amy understands the sensitive nature of pelvic health physiotherapy and will be a valuable resource to help patients navigate online booking, schedule appointments led by treatment frameworks, provide direct billing services, and be available for clinic phone calls.
Welcome!

Welcome back from maternity leave Jodi Bremner, PT!
Jodi is a pelvic health physiotherapist who has been shadowing Jessica in the clinic since February 2022. Jodi is thrilled to be accepting new Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy assessments in January. Jodi has completed training in non-internal pelvic floor physiotherapy, preparation for and recovery from cesarean birth, internal female urinary incontinence and Clinical Pilates. She is currently taking appointments to treat female urinary incontinence (bladder leakage) - whether it is leakage due to pregnancy/postpartum, weakened/overactive pelvic floor musculature, urgency, or stress (coughing, jumping, sneezing, etc.), Jodi can help! Jodi is available for Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy assessments and treatments, including evening appointment options.

New Clinic Email: contact@jbphysio.ca
January 2023 brings a new direct contact email for JBPhysio! This will help reduce wait times for email responses and provide a way for patients to connect directly to our Clinic Manager. Please use this email for clinic correspondences.

Collaborations with Clannad Counselling & Consulting Inc
It continues to be a pleasure to collaborate with Clannad Counselling & Consulting Inc and the Free Spirit Therapeutic Riding Association to support their delivery of SPIRIT - a program designed to support women Veterans living in the Central and Western Regions of Nova Scotia. Thank you, Stephanie, for the invitations to provide educational sessions on pelvic health and therapeutic exercise for this unique population. This program is made possible by generous funding from Veterans Affairs Canada. Read more about the SPIRIT Program here.
Acadia University
Connecting with Acadia University has been a highlight of 2022. This fall Jessica taught in the Anatomy lab, gave a guest lecture in Pilates, participated in the foundations in kinesiology networking event, and will be giving a guest lecture on exercise screening in pregnancy. Next semester Jessica is thrilled to be teaching KINE 3050 – Advanced Human Anatomy. This course is designed to be clinically oriented and directed to students going on to graduate studies in a health care field.
The Maritime Pelvic Physiotherapy Conference and Social
On October 21 and 22, 2022, it was an honour and pleasure to host the Maritime Pelvic Physiotherapy Conference + Social. This event brought together our network of pelvic health clinicians from across Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and PEI. We studied trauma informed care presented by Clannad Counselling & Consulting Inc., recently published research on vaginal pain conditions with Katie Kelly PT, the collaborative role of physiotherapists for individuals undergoing fertility treatment with Dr. Ripley from Atlantic Assisted Reproductive Therapies, gender diverse care, prenatal physiotherapy advocacy, and discussed clinical cases. Registrants also trained in situational awareness and personal self-defence with Abhaya Martial Arts Academy Windsor. Thank you to the five Kinesiology students from Acadia who volunteered at the Conference to provide registration, introduce speakers, and help the event run smoothly. If you would like to collaborate in the future on this event, please get in touch!

Queen’s University Research
This weekend Jessica is travelling to Queen’s University to further develop a Doctoral research proposal aimed to impact the standard of prenatal care provided in Nova Scotia! As a clinician-researcher, Jessica is in the third year of a Doctorate of Science in Rehabilitation and Health Leadership. Stayed tuned for more on this! It is a career goal for prenatal physiotherapy to be standard care in Nova Scotia, accessible to every pregnant individual.
Thank you once again to everyone involved in JBPhysio and our collaborations. Welcome to Amy and welcome back to Jodi. We are looking to providing optimal injury prevention, rehabilitation, and healthcare to the Canning and surrounding area in 2023.
Warm wishes for a lovely season,
Jessica Bergevin, PT
