JBPhysio Update: Fall PhysioPilates Schedule and Massage Therapy for Pelvic Health

Updated: Aug 3

Hello from Jessica Bergevin Physiotherapy (JBPhysio)! We are pleased to share our fall clinic news with you. September brings a full and flexible PhysioPilates schedule with Jessica Bergevin and Jodi Bremner, physiotherapists, and massage for pelvic health (new!).

Existing physiotherapy patients can now book individual PhysioPilates classes through our online booking system at https://jbphysio.janeapp.com/ . If you experience any trouble with booking, please email the clinic at contact@jbphysio.ca and our Clinic Manager Amy will be happy to assist you. Classes are billed as Group Physiotherapy, covered by some insurances.

PhysioPilates classes can be paid for 'as you go' (via e-transfer to contact@jbphysio.ca or cash) OR purchased as a package of 5 classes for $120 (recommended - there will be credit in your online account and you can be reimbursed anytime).

Massage Therapy for Pelvic Health

JBPhysio is thrilled to welcome Monika Bigelow, Registered Massage Therapist, to our team to provide this valuable service. Monika is a skilled and experienced massage therapist whose practice focuses on improving the quality of life for individuals experiencing pain or dysfunction related to pelvic health conditions. Massage therapy is an effective and complementary therapy to pelvic floor physiotherapy. The muscles of the pelvis can develop tension from injury, stress, childbirth, surgery, and repetitive positions or movements. Tension and pain in the muscles of the pelvis can be treated using external massage techniques. Note: a referral from physiotherapy is required to access this service.

Massage therapy treatment can help with the following areas:

  • Pelvic pain

  • Pregnancy and post-partum related pelvic symptoms

  • Scar tissue (cesarean section, hysterectomy, breast augmentation/reduction, cancer)

  • Pain with urination/bowel movements/intercourse

  • Endometriosis

  • Constipation

  • Hip osteoarthritis management

  • Mobility

Update from Jessica Bergevin: This Spring it was an honour and a pleasure to teach Advanced Human Anatomy to (103!) third and fourth year Kinesiology students at Acadia University. This was my first full lecture course that I designed and delivered. This fall I will be back teaching at Acadia Tuesdays and Thursdays. I am available Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at JBPhysio to provide both orthopaedic and pelvic health physiotherapy and am accepting new patients.

In June, I travelled to the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists Canada's Scientific Conference to accept a research grant for my doctoral work in rehabilitation and health leadership. The purpose of my research is to reduce the incidence and severity of injury associated with pregnancy and childbirth, with a focus on a Nova Scotia context.

Amy Mackay, Clinic Manager, at JBPhysio has been doing a fantastic job with patient communications and organizational strategies. Thank you Amy! This past weekend she joined her FSTRA (Free Spirit Therapeutic Riding Association) colleagues on the Annapolis Valley Hunt’s Beach Ride (you can see Amy leading the pack!).

Jodi Bremner, physiotherapist, has been a key team member at JBPhysio since February 2022. Following her return from maternal leave, Jodi will be available Wednesdays and Thursdays at JBPhysio for pelvic health physiotherapy and is accepting new patients. She is currently taking appointments to treat female urinary incontinence (bladder leakage) - whether it is leakage due to pregnancy/postpartum, weakened/overactive pelvic floor musculature, urgency, or stress (coughing, jumping, sneezing). Birth preparation for, and recovery from, cesarean sections is another area of expertise and passion that Jodi has to offer.

Thank you to everyone at the clinic and studio. If some time has passed since your last appointment, you are always welcome to rebook and restart your physical health journey.
